For Small Orchestra, Synth Percussion, and Solo Voice
This spooky theme features the clicking of a watch to measure the passing of time and chanting in the North Ber Tongue from Virginia’s books. The repeated chanted words are “the blade, the hood, the wraith (nameless spirit),” which describe Spyros Wolf-Fang from The Crescent Moon and the Sparrow.
For Full Orchestra and Vocal Trio
Captain A. Ravenclaw from The Crescent Moon and the Sparrow is a steadfast and skilled leader who is equally comfortable fighting as he is playfully joking with his crew. This theme includes his motif in G minor as well as a sketch of theme material for action sequences in the book. The theme ends with the vocal trio singing in Tintalrulian, one of Virginia’s story languages.
For two Cellos, Oboe, Flute, Baritone, and Bass, snare, and Taiko drums
The Amaruq, meaning “gray wolves”, is the magician community’s name for the North Bers. The North Bers are gray, leather-skinned alien raiders. This theme prominently features percussion and chromatic harmonies made to mimic the music of the North Ber Homelands.
For Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Flute, Organ, Marimba, Bass Drum, and Hand Chimes
Virginia wrote Dusterwald Lullaby for a series of scenes depicting Zebedee Frost-Wing’s backstory in The Hunt for the EverWeb. This haunting piece slowly unfolds as more voices add, each one neither melody or harmony. Instead multiple, separate voices shape the piece just like the early influences in young Zebedee’s life.
